Caverns Country Club & Resort is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Luray, Virginia.
The course first opened in 1976. The course was designed by Mal Purdy.
The course sits on a bluff high above the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. The course sits near Luray Caverns, the largest caverns in the Eastern United States. The gently rolling fairways and large greens, situated in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountain, provides one of the mid-Atlantic's most scenic golf locations.
An interesting feature of the course can be found on hole #1. This 509 yard par-5 has a small rocky outcrop in the middle of the fairway with a small hole opening into a deep and unexplored cavern. The good news, you are allowed a free drop if your ball goes down the hole.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6499 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,266 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 16, a par-5 that plays to 551 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 150 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 10, a 382-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Caverns Golf Course is # 7, a 152 yard par-3.
